I hesitate to go into this, but several years ago I had to put my very best pal down. Chess (my rough and tumble cat of 16 years, who out lasted three addresses, two boyfriends and a husband) had been sick for a long time and I was crushed. After being bullied and demeaned by a vet on Capitol Hill, I searched for and found a group of vets for whom such conduct is simply inconceivable.
Right up until the end, Chess had been under the excellent care of Dr Heather Weihl at EBAH. During his last year I suppose a vet of failing dignity and compassion could have talked me into expensive procedures and treatments, but Dr Weihl demonstrated tremendous understanding. And when his time came she was THE BEST. She came to my home and gently put him to sleep. I will be forever grateful for her humanity.
Also at EBAH is my former neighbor, Dr Annie Raftis. Interbay is a long way from Edmonds, but it may be worth the drive.

When my grandmother passed away several years ago, I was given her wedding ring and her Sunday handbag. It is black leather with a lipstick red leather lining, it has a short strap and gold clasp. I loved it when I was a kid and I love today.
When the bag was handed to me I urgently opened it to see what, if anything, was in it. The contents included a couple pennies, an emery board, a lace handkerchief and this clip-thing designed to suspend fancy evening bags from the edge of a table or in her case, her church pew.
I used the hang-up (what I called it) for years, but it was lost with some luggage several years ago. Imagine my delight to learn (from a Judy's Book review...here: http://members.judysbook.com/posts/revieweditems/product.aspx?ri=26668605 ) about Dangle.
Dangle is a brilliant little miracle of engineering. A 2.3 ounce hook that can dangle a 85-pound bag from your average dinner table.
At the moment I am carrying a clutch and my apparel budget is slated for gifts. So, I bought a Dangle for my friend Lydia (shshsh...don't tell her), who is forever having to scrape NYC gunk off the bottom of her beautiful handbags and put Dangle on my wish list. My grandmother would be proud.
And yes. The women in your life--all of them--would love to find one under the Christmas tree. A pretty new handbag would be good too.

Best in Class

After some quick research and an even quicker trip to Best Buys (at Northgate), I am pleased to say I am the proud owner of a Toshiba 27" color television with plenty of bells and whistles.
Here is a http://reviews.cnet.com/Toshiba_27AF45_TV_27/4505-6481_7-31344637.html?tag=pdtl-img to the review at CNET.com.
And on a related note:
In response to my question, "Must I face life without a television?" I got a lot of input and a frequent question: "Why want a TV?" I answered the question in a comment to one of the responses, but it vanished off the site. So here it goes again.
I like TV. I like catching a rerun movie, I have seen a million times before, on a Saturday afternoon: the perfect excuse to blow off housework. I like great writing: it inspires me. I like movies on Staurday night: cuddling on the couch with my husband and cat. I like watching the media go into overdrive: the greatest show on Earth. And lately watching Oprah change the media landscape has been great television: the power of one!
Also, I have family in the entertainment business: My dad is a producer and I like seeing his work; former schoolmates are actors and crew members. The TV connects me to my homebase.

This is a wonderful shop. We found them through a friend who had every Audi he ever owned serviced by PR. They worked on our Acura for years and every experience was stellar. I was especially happy they had a (small) fleet of loaner cars, offered at NO CHARGE.
We have a Beetle now and will be going back to PR, as needed.

My husband and I had no intention to buy the day we walked out of our front door and down to Carter.
We were just "looking."
But then I saw her...Sunny. A pre-owned, sun-yellow 2000 Beetle with less than 25,000 miles and a sticker price that left me looking around for security cameras (this was a steal!). Just then Joe approached us and offered to take us for a spin.
While we waited for Joe to get our offer approved I learned all about Carter VW and the many services they provide that makes doing business with them so great. At the top of that list is the Hassle-Free loan car. This is just a must these days. We all rely on our cars to heavily to be suddenly without one just because it is being serviced. The finance guys were really on it. I have had a few interactions with the service desk and those people are super professional.
Buying a new or pre-owned car from Carter is sort of like meeting a really great guy and falling in love....only to discover that his family is great too.
I know people who have been customers of Carter since the 60's. Hassle-Free sales and service is real.

I Thank God for Jim Button

First, here is a http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/248654_checkbook17.html to a P-I article entitled, Listing Offers Lowdown on Plumbers. If I knew then, what I know now.
Let me tell you about how it took me two weeks and cost me $50.00 just to have four plumbers look at a project in a vacant apartment in my Ballard 4-plex.
About a month ago my husband called Aurora, Fischer and Best, at the urging of our owner-partner. We did. Turns out only the latter two work on commercial properties, so we scheduled times for technicians to come out. Fischer showed up, on time and turned around a bid in a timely fashion. It was higher than we expected so we kept looking. Best was up next. Note: they require an appointment window (8-12 or 1-5 or something like that) to look at the job and will charge for the appointment. We were charged $50.00. The technician was late and talked over my head. The bid was promised for the next day, but was not returned for three additional working days. The bid was very high.
By the way, neither Best or Fischer have followed up on their bids.
About this time the P-I ran the above noted article. Thankfully we caught it and on a whim called Jim Button who came out two days later, looked at the job at no charge (and even helped my husband replace our kitchen faucet during the call) and returned a reasonable bid in a timely manner, in spite of the fact that he had to attend a funeral for a friend in the meanwhile. We booked him and the work will be completed in a week.
I also stumbled (via Morgans in Crown Hill) on Scott at Simple Solutions. I talked to him, but he was booked solid. I liked that he used to work at Morgans and that they spoke highly of his work and customer service. It gave me the feeling of that "I know where you live" leverage.
I've been saving this story for just this moment. Good luck.

Seattle prices are among the highest in the region. According to AAA http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/WAmetro.asp, the average price of gas in Seattle is $3.16/gallon. It's 25 cents/gallon more than the current national average http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/index.asp.
LOVE AAA http://www.judysbook.com/cities/seattle/Towing/23533051/p1/AAA_Washington.htm!!!
