If you're like me, no amount of freebies, rewards, or whatever can make the experience of air travel pleasant. That said, there are airlines that are better than most at mitigating the negatives and making the experience of getting to the airport, through check-in, on the flight and off it bareable. Alaska is one such airline. Each time I've flown the service has been friendly and attentive without being cute and annoying like Southwest. Fares are generally reasonable and flight availability is good. In particular, if you reside in the Puget Sound area where the Alaska hub is, you do yourself a service but checking Alaska flights first before going to other airlines.

I'm a big fan of Kenneth Cole shoes. They're stylish, comfortable, and durable. They're also not ridiculously priced (usually). Also, they're available both online and offline (Nordstrom, Kenneth Cole, etc.). Whatever you do, do not buy shoes at Banana Republic. I made that mistake a few years ago. They're the crappiest quality shoes I've ever purchased.

Not only do they offer extensive listings (they're among many in this regard) but also they incoporate social networking into the search process. This increases the quality of the jobs one can find through Jobster dramatically because you find them through your network of friends. I can't find the name of this place but you'll know it when you see it. It's just East of the corner of Irving Park and Sheridan Rd. They are incredibly fast and careful when it comes to getting all the little nooks and crannies of our car. We've always taken it there for a wash and they always do a great job. The last time we were there, one of the washers was able to remove paint damage to our front bumper that I thought was there for good. The way to find the place is by looking for the strobe lights and balloons in front of the entrance to the garage.

This AM, I went to the DMV armed with laptop and newspaper to pass the interminable time I would spend waiting to get my WA license. Having recently relocated to WA from IL, my expectation was set by what I had experienced at the DMV in Chicago which was a combination of early 20th century Ellis Island and the Wrigley Box Office the day Cubs season tickets go on sale. In other words, I figured I was in for a long, crowded, and perplexing wait.
Instead what happened was I walked in to the Greenwood Department of Motor Vehicles at 8:45AM and waited not a second. What's more, the woman that helped me was really pleasant and helpful. 5 minutes later, I had my temporary license (the real one gets mailed in 5 days) in hand and I was on my way to work.
This ain't your father's DMV...

That said, every time I go here, I always get a fresh serving of attitude on the side. Not sure if it's just me or if others have had similar experiences here. Anyway, the food's good and the location is super convenient if you live in Fremont, Wallingford, or the UD.

A month ago, I ordered a fantastic chocolote cake from Macrina in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood. It was for my mother's birthday and she's a big cake and chocolate fan. She loved it and so did everyone else fortunate enough to grab a piece. Macrina is known as a terrific bakery in town and makes a mean birthday cake. You can't go wrong.
