In all seriousness, they have the great rides to walk the walk. My favorite is the contraption that, after strapping you in, throws you round and round in concentric circles while flinging you about.

Everyone wants an iPod. Everyone. Even your grandmother is secretly hoping you'll get her one for her birthday this year. Everyone knows their cool and sleek and somehow counter-culture despite being incredibly mainstream. But no one tells you about the sinister side to the iPod. I'm not talking about that wierd U2 one. Ever since I got my iPod, I cannot stop dancing in front of colorful backgrounds.

I honestly didn't know what to expect when I got that 50% off coupon in the mail. I had never gone to the Gene Juarez academy salon, and I had definitely never highlighted my hair. But if you have the time to miss two buses and still get to Northgate, take a chance on this place, even if you don't have a coupon. My stylist was amazing, and offered to cut my hair for a mere additional $10. The only problem is that, as other reviews pointed out, it takes a while. I was there for about 4 hours. But I must assure you that it was worth it if you have a lot of time to spare.

Margaret Cho is an amazing comedian, and I love her website. Sometimes she writes about run-ins with other comics; sometimes, the pressing news stories in the parlence of our time. Whatever it is, it's always worth reading. Her writing changes from laugh-out-loud funny to touching (such as her tribute to recently passed comic Mitch Hedgburg), but it's clear that she cares deeply about whatever topic she chooses and it's always a surprise.

Baily/Coy books is the store to turn to when the 49 is 30 minutes late and you're the angriest you've ever been. Just glance at that familiar sign out front and take pride in the fact that knowing the last four words of 1984 will finally get you that 20% discount. The selection there is small, but there are alot of hard-to-find books there.

I think that the nicest bookstore workers I have ever met have been at the university bookstore. When I solicited their help in finding a textbook for a class (when it was about a foot away from me) and then attemped to pay for it (without any money), the bookstore attendant was friendly nonetheless and even replaced the used book with a another one that was less tattered while I put it on hold.
They also have an amazing fiction section and a literary theory section over which you will drool. The atmosphere there is great, too. Nice for reading.

I like this store because they endeavour to shield their customers from the neighborhood noise on its busy street. They request that customers turn off all cell phones searching for books. Their selection is great; I got a first edition of a book, and many of their books are quaintly old. Compared to Half-Priced Books, this place isn't cheap, and their selection certainly isn't as large, but many of their books are in better condition.

If you want a book and want it for cheap, chances are you will find it at half-priced books. And if you don't care about tiny tiny writing, battered book spines, and writing in the margins, you can get the books really cheap. You can frequently get old editions in good condition for under a dollar. The people who work there are also very friendly, and your shopper peers? Pure book worms.

This place is highway robin-ery, yet we keep coming back. In the end, we like the unlimited steak fries, the needlessly tall strawberry lemonades, the troubling wall art. It's loud, fun, and curiously successful at making its customers feel like rebels sans causes. They used to have really good portabella mushroom burgers, but I think they took them off the menu.

Located a stone's throw from Swarthmore College, Occasionally Yours is an intimate, friendly restaurant that has a charming, small-town ambiance. They let regulars keep their own coffee mugs on reserve. They also have great sandwiches, which they make fresh (though they sometimes forget key ingredients). Best of all, they have a policy where Swatties get a free lemonade with purchase, though they might have recently changed it.
