We've taken our dogs to Evelyn Robertson for 19 years, and can't recommend her enough. She is compassionate, competent, and extremely trustworthy. She is the owner of the business, but has several other veterinarians who work there as well. Our dog, Jazz, actually picked her for us, by licking her face! You dog likes her? That was enough for us to say she is our vet, and we've never regretted it. You won't either.

I love La Tienda. There used to be a store on the Ave., but like other businesses on the Ave., they're dropping like flies. This La Tienda I write about is in Ballard, and it has the greatest merchandise. Mostly, what I've purchased there over the years has been jewelery...earrings. It is so colorful in the store, with all of the international merchandise, much of it from South America. They have clothing, Day of the Dead trinkets, and lots of other interesting items. Definitely worth a look!

This is formerly Oddvar's Volvo Repair. They changed owners when Oddvar FINALLY retired, and have the same mechanics. One difference is they work on more than Volvos (they've done work for my family members with a Chevy and Lexus). The owner, Mark, is very honest and trustworthy (formerly a service writer at Bob Beyers Ravenna Volvo for many years). Not quite as quirky and vocal as Oddvar, which is so sad!!!!!! We really miss Oddvar's "colorful character". You may have seen bumper stickers around town -- Oddvar is my copilot. We continue to take our Volvo to Ballard Family Auto, and get GREAT service.

This restaurant has changed over the years, but the food is still good. It used to be a cafeteria line with chatty staff, and the best mac and cheese on Wednesdays! They also used to have a really nice, sweet couscous. But, I digress - it has gotten too corporate for my taste, but I do still purchase the bread. I think their sourdough can't be beat!

This place has it all...great beer, booze if you want it, a wonderful bar menu, and Steve the owner is a gem! Let's see....what haven't we tried...the appetizer wings are fabulous - watch out, wingdome! My personal favorite is the Reuben. We first went to Bad Albert's around 6-7 years ago, when an article appeared in the Times claiming they made the best Reuben in town. They do! It comes with great fries, or you can substitute a yummy ceasar. The cobb salad is very good, the fish & chips, the back street burger. On Fridays, Steve has an incredible special -- prime rib!! Get there early, cuz when it's gone, it's gone baby! And, this guy is so hip, he even pours our current favorite beer - Manny's! They also do breakfast on the weekends -- not a bad hollandaise!

We decided to check out Murphy's, since we would no longer be choking from cig smoke. They've always been able to pour a great Guinness...the problem is the food. One person in our party ordered a Reuben. There were 2...count them...two, thin pieces of corned beef on the sandwich. Completely lame for, a: a Reuben, and b: for around $9. The fries were completely soggy. You might expect that to be the case late at night, as Murphy's has never been too hip at hot oil, but this was at 6:00. We won't go back. When you have indifferent food, and sullen management, who needs to go, when you have other businesses, such as Bad Albert's in old Ballard with great food, and a very friendly atmosphere.

What a dive! 25 cent pool tables, beer, and recently booze. There is a really cool old mural running the length of the tavern/bar. It has been severly damaged from years of tobacco smoke, so I hope the owners will one day restore it. Inexpensive beer, and a great Wallingford hangout. If they could only fix Ms. Packman...

This is a fun place to have a pool or a bowling party. It used to be an old garage. It has even more appeal, now that there is no longer any smoking. They serve food and beverages - good beer and drinks - right at your pool table or bowling lane. They also have a restaurant seating area. The menu is pretty good, with pizza and burgers. They serve a heaping plate of good french fries. There are four bowling lanes downstairs, and numerous pool tables (the real ones!) upstairs.

This bookstore has all the nooks and crannies to feel you are alone with the books! It's Elliot Bay Bookstore in Pioneer Square. Unfortunately, it is no longer independent, but it still maintains the same feel. The staff are everywhere, and very helpful. I've spent many a lunchtime ibrowsing n there, losing track of time. It has a good kids section, too.
