The SAM is located in the heart of downtown Seattle and is Seattle's biggest art museum. Though it cannot compare to the major metropolitan art museums that you find on the east coast the SAM does a good job keeping a rotation of good exhibits running through the museum while showing the pride they have in the museum itself. Last year there was a Van Gogh exhibit that drew a large crowd (line around the block most days). The museum pulled out all the stops including performance art to teach the museum goers more about Van Gogh. This level of pride for the museum is shown every time you visit the SAM.

My fiancé exclaimed "$1.50 for ONE donut!?" the first time we walked into this place, but after eating one we both agreed it is worth every penny! Be sure to try the pink feathered boa (pink frosted donut with coconut shredded over the top). They have rotating flavors and terrific little tables where you can enjoy them. My only complaint is the coffee is not consistent. Best to get a latte somewhere else. However, don’t let that stop you, these donuts are delicious!

Its hard to give a detailed review without breaking the review guidelines, however I can say that this is THE place to get a cake for a bachtelor party or a birthday party with the right audience. You wouldnt believe what they can put on the cake. The price is reasonable for the speciality cakes. I dont think the flavors are anything outstanding. But, hey, you arent buying it for the taste so much as the appearance!

The restaurant and the small bakery next door are both owned by the chef Tom Douglas. Everything from the soup to the bread to the cheesecakes is delicious. Enjoy a sandwich and soup for a quick lunch at the bakery or sit down for a long leisurely meal in the restaurant. Everything on the menu is delicious. The atmosphere is almost as great as the food, with a comfortable and interesting décor. Only downside, the bakery’s only seating are two small tables outside. It’s probably best to get lunch to go.

The University Bookstore is primarily the outlet for textbooks and school supplies for students at the University of Washington. However, it is a great place to shop for books. They have a large selection and usually helpful and friendly staff. The parking in the U-District is to the rear of the store. The store will validate your parking when you make a purchase. There is also a large selection of gift items and art supplies. The bookstore also often has visiting authors who do readings in the store.

I know that a lot of people are big fans of this store, but I am not. It always seems very noisy when I am there. There is a food court inside the store and it seems to create a lot of noise and funny smells that I do not enjoy when I am book hunting. The middle of the store opens to a stairway leading downstairs to a shopping area. Overall I find the store dark, uncomfortable and noisy. I do not recommend this store.

It had been years since I had read a book by John Grisham. Though I had read his earlier books, I found the themes got to be repetitive and lost interest. A co-worker recommended this one to me and I loved it. Rather than centering around a lawyer (the basis for many Grisham books), this book was based on the experience of the newspaper editor during a high profile trial. I highly recommend this one.

This book is haunting. It is such an original concept, you won’t know what to expect. You follow the main character as she tries to find her killer and watch her family and friends deal with her death. It is a book that will make you aware of your own mortality as well as wonder about the after life. It is a beautifully written book, though incredibly sad book.
