I'm not a huge science fiction fan, but really enjoyed the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. I was surprised by how much I learned, and really appreciated the effort to contextualize science fiction and situate it within the broader popular culture. For those not interested in reading text heavy museum panels, there are lots of opportunities to get hands on with interactive displays. And, the robot display is just plain cool! I think everyone, regardless of their science fiction interest, would enjoy a few hours at this museum.

I was skeptical when I was told I was being dragged along to the Museum of Glass. How interesting could glass be? Well, I was surprised. The galleries are filled with interesting and beautiful objects which I had to keep reminding myself were made from glass. What really captured my interest however was the "hot shop," a live workshop where you can watch fabulous glass creations being made. The building that houses the museum also deserves special mention: it is an architectural marvel, and well worth a visit on its own terms. The Museum of Glass is a unique and unforgettable destination.

We were drawn to the Washington State History Museum for a special exhibit on Everest, and didn't really anticipate how interesting the other parts of the museum would be. The museum is housed in a character building that imparts a lot of atmosphere. The history of Washington is told in a very interesting and creative manner, that easily engaged all of us. Make sure if you check out the fantastic collection of glass at the neighboring Union Station when you visit.

Every time I end up at the Pacific Science Center I always end up enjoying myself and having a lot more fun than I expected I would. Although some exhibits and facilities are starting to show their age, you will certainly come away learning something and having a great time.
I recommend going for the best value combo ticket that gets you admission to the exhibits and an IMAX movie. The Center has two IMAX theaters, so you will have several movie options to choose from.

I dragged my sister to the Museum of Flight against her will, but several hours later she had to be kicked out by the docents to get her to leave. The displays are engaging and there really is something for everyone. We were very lucky to arrive just as a tour was beginning, and I can't recommend enough trying to do the same. We were given a fantastic 90 minute tour that was filled with first-hand accounts of the early days of local aviation, and insight and stories that we wouldn't have gotten any other way. Of course, the Concorde was great, but we really got a kick out of being able to soak up the atmosphere of the first Air Force One. I can't recommend this museum enough. Don't miss it.

Looking for a place to eat, we decided to check out Beau Thai (I liked the name). The service was efficient, if not a little a cold. The decor is fairly plain and unexciting. We tried three dishes, and found them all somewhat lacking. The flavors were underdeveloped, although portion sizes were generous. Considering how many great Thai restaurants there are in Portland, I would look elsewhere next time for my Thai fix.

The Paramount is the type of theatre that just isn't being built in anymore: regal, opulent, and classy. The acoustics are outstanding, and even though the hall is deceptively large, there is a feeling of intimacy even from the balcony. I have seen everything from rock shows here to Broadway musicals, and the experience is always memorable.

Just days before a recent overseas trip I realized my International Student Identity Card was expired. I headed down to Council Travel and was impressed with how quickly they got me fixed up with a new one. The agent that helped me was friendly and professional. On this particular occasion I didn't book my travel with Council, but based on this experience I would do so next time.

The Oregon Zoo is a great place to spend a full day. The animals are housed in roomy enclosures that offer great visibility. The grounds of the zoo are green and lush, and this would be a great place to bring a picnic in nice weather. There is a enough to see and do that a full day can be spent here, and the visit will be enjoyed by everyone of all ages.
