We used Shuttle Express thinking that it was like the Super Shuttle service in other cities. WRONG!!! The difference is that these people will make you wait in the parking garage at the airport until they fill the shuttle up. That wait can be up to an hour and a half! The very last time it happened to me, I solicited others waiting in line and shared a cab. It's ridiculous when you ask them how long it may take for it to fill up to go to your neighborhood, and they can't give you an answer. On top of that, you're sitting in the parking garage at the airport breathing in auto exhaust while you wait. Unacceptable. I now use an off-site parking lot and love it. If they changed their wait policy to be more like Super Shuttle (they wait a max of 15 minutes), I would consider using them.

A couple of co-workers and I went to the Bite this year and it was underwhelming. Thank goodness it was free, but the food booths were a smidge better than stuff you'd find at a state fair. Why can't they get some good restaurants in there? Granted there are a few local restaurants represented, but it seemed like there were a lot of fried food, roasted corn, and strawberry lemonade. This is the same stuff you see at the neighborhood fairs. The bite really "BITES".

The Seafood Fest in Ballard is worth checking out if you like your fish and crustaceans. Every vendor selling food must offer at least one dish that includes seafood. You'll find tandoori prawns, crab cakes, grilled salmon, etc. There are also plenty of non-food vendors hawking their wares. It's a good family affair, with entertainment, good food, and a chance to enjoy summer at it's best.

The Underground Tour is a good short history lesson if you want to know more about Seattle's early days. You start out in a bar and end up underneath Pioneer Square. The tour is well narrated but the size of the group was too large. It was hard to keep everyone together, and some of the times it was hard to hear the guide speak because of the chatter of other guests and the group size. The underground part was interesting, but it got boring really fast. Overall I recommend it but you'll only want to do it once.

You can bet that Jake (she drives a blood-red van) won't be taking you to the typical crowded touristy locales. I live in Seattle and found this tour fascinating. Especially the part about the Comet Hill cemetary on Beacon Hill. Creepy! I highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking an alternative way to entertain out-of-towners. You'll be taken around in Jake's van so seating capacity is small, but makes for a more intimate setting than a tour bus.

After having taken my two chihuahuas to the other vet up Holman (the one beside the pet store), I knew I had to do better. My dogs see Nancy Bauer and this place is sooo much better than the other vet's office. The staff is more professional, the waiting area doesn't smell, in fact, it doesn't even feel like a vet's office at all. You know how they are all outdated, 60's-like, depressing? This is the opposite. Dr Bauer put my chi on the exam counter (it's not cold stainless steel either) and carefully laid out a terry towel. After I told her that my dog was very food-oriented, she opened her drawer and sprinkled some bonito flakes (!) so that she could get her mind off being in a vet's office. Do yourself a favor and don't go to the other vet place up the street. The vets here are more open to holistic and alternative approaches to pet care.

I used to take my dogs to this place but I stopped when little things started to bother me. Like the smell of urine or pet something as you walk through the door. Or the careless young staff memberhat made a callous comment out loud about a prescription that had been left behind, only to find out that the pet had just died. His reaction? He thought it was funny. I guess hiring uncompassionate 20 year olds as assistants will get you that response. It seemed like every time I went there, the staff were all young, inexperienced, and new. The other thing I didn't like was that they sell Science Diet in the lobby. That's always a discouraging sign when you want nothing but the best for your pets. I now go to Carkeek Park Veterinary (see post).

If you normally bring your pets into a vet's office for routine vaccinations, you know that they'll charge an office visit fee (~$40-45) plus the cost of the vaccine(s). I have a regular vet that my dogs see, but I take them here to get their annual shots because this place offers vaccination clinics on certain days during certain hours. There is no office visit fee, so you only pay for the vaccine.

I'm torn between Mud Bay and All the Best when it comes to buying top quality dog food and treats for my two dogs. They offer high-grade kibble and frozen foods for fresh diets. Besides food, they stock a good selection of pet beds and accessories. Bulk biscuits are available by the pound, and the staff is generally knowledgable about alternative treatments and remedies for common pet related issues. Do your pets a favour and feed them food from a place like All the Best or Mud Bay. They'll be healthier and happier!
