For some reason, it seems most visitors to Seattle really want to go to the Space Needle. I get the impression most of them think the views will be spectacular and the swanky resturant on top will match.
Sorry folks, but that isn't true. Yeah, the views aren't bad - but you can get equally pretty views from Queen Anne, along most of Seattle's waterfront parks, or other places. As for the food, I've heard it's changed management and gotten better, but the last few times I was there, most large food chains gave it a good run for its money and it was absurdly overpriced.

Shopping at Mud Bay Granary is a bit like going to Whole Foods for your pet. While calling it foofoo is overly harsh, there's no denying that the quality of the food they offer is far and above that in your locale Petco. Besides food, they also offer a healthy supply of pet toys, housing, carriers, litter, and pretty much anything else you would expect.... all of a quality befitting of a foofoo pet store.

Behind the "One Day Only Sale" signs covered in dust and permanently affixed to the windows is a truly amazing collection of quality antiques. There are 3 floors, and you're sure to find something you'll like in there. I've gotten more than a few pieces for my house here, and plan to go back as I need more.
Talk to the owner or his wife - not only is it interesting to hear how they get all this stuff here, but they're nice people, and just might cut you a deal.

Great service for your audi (and you'll need it)

Back when I was leasing my Audi TT, I did it through University Audi. This review is about the dealer, not the car, so I'll just say that my TT was very fun, very expensive, and not very reliable. Fortunately, I was leasing it here, and these guys treat their leasers right.
Whenever I brought the car in, be it because of the 3 different defective turbo diverter valves, the tape that wouldn't eject, being out of windshield washer fluid, or just because some things where rattling, they happily gave me a loaner car as long as needed. And when I got my car back, it was always spotless on the inside and out.
If you want to lease a car and have the pockets to be treated right, these are the guys to come to.

Gelatiamo is an ice cream stand downtown, and, quite simply, serves the best ice cream in Seattle. Other places such as ColdStone or the Mix will take some decent ice cream and mix it up with whatever you want in front of your face, and that is quite good. However, Gelatiamo will have none of that - this place is all about pure ice cream, and as far as unadorned ice cream goes, this is as good as it gets. Try the rice or coconut flavor. They sound odd, but oh man, they are *good*.

Gregg's Greenlake is neighborhood landmark. For a very long time, they've been selling bikes and whatever else is popular in exercise equipment. Inline skates, skateboards, and snowboards join bicycles as their primary staples. Gregg's may not offer big discounts (unless you look into their rental equipment near the end of the summer), but they make up for it with a great staff and a wide product line. They also work hard to make sure you're happy with what you buy from them, even after you've paid for it.

Everything you would hope from a major university's official bookstore

The University Bookstore may not have the best presentation of Seattle bookstores - it's basically a crappy 2-story building + basement built in the 70's, and it shows. But hey, you're not here to admire the architecture, you're here to buy books, and in that area the UW Bookstore has you covered. While the basement is filled with all the books required in the classes of a 50,000 student university, the main and upper floors have books more suited for the general public, on a range of topics just a diverse. Oh, and if you drove, you get parking validation for buying anything.... even a stick of gum.

Ok, let's get this out of the way first - Elliot Bay Books is not going to be your cheapest bookstore. Sorry, that's a fact.
But that's the only thing not going for it. Filling up a large corner lot in an old Pioneer Square brick building, the place is a joy to walk through. Brick arches, books stacked on high shelves, creaky wooden floors, bustling customers, amazingly broad selection, locally owned, regular book readings.... it's a great store.

When I had to get my new house re-roofed as part of the closing process, my agent suggested these guys. They may not speak great english, but they did a splendid job on my new roof, keeping the existing gutters intact (apparently that's pretty rare) and tearing off 3 layers of old roofing. What's more, they showed up every day after the contract started (also pretty rare), finishing the entire job in under a week.
Best of all, they did this for about half the price of anybody else. (And yes, they *are* licensed and bonded - NETWOPRO11NR.)
