Brown Bear Car Wash is conveniently located on Leary Way in Ballard/Fremont and it’s usually pretty busy. It doesn’t seem to be any more or less expensive than any other self service car wash place. It’s the usual process – you put the quarters in and you get to control what you get out of the hose – prewash, soap, wax-like stuff, etc. They also have the big industrial vacuum cleaners there as well, so you can get your car spic and span inside and out.

You can watch them make cheese here. You can also ask them just about anything about cheese that you can think of. The staff is super knowledgeable. If you want a special cheese, this is certainly the place to go. There selection is huge. The only downside is that it is located by Pike’s Place so there are always a ton of people milling around and clogging the little place up.

The Dartmouth Club of Western Washington is a non-profit club associated with the College that serves to keep Dartmouth Alumni in Western Washington in touch with one another as well as with the College. We have regularly scheduled events where people can get together to meet, socialize, network, and have fun. These events include everything from forming a team to run in the Annual Seattle Jingle Bell Run to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation, to meeting up for a day at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, to taking some time out during the week to meet up for a monthly Pub Night. Dartmouth also occasionally sponsors events in conjunction with the Club, such as having President Wright come to speak in Seattle in January. The more participation we have the better, so if you are an alum, or associated with one, or a current Dartmouth student, please check out the website and join us at our next event. www.dartmouth.org/clubs/westwash

This little coffee place in Madrona has good coffee, a nice atmosphere, and a delicious assortment of cupcakes! They have a place in Ballard too I guess, though I haven't been to it. Check out the website at http://www.cupcakeroyale.com/ for more info on the cupcakes. Verite is a good place to go to chat with someone or to read or to work on your laptop - just like most other Seattle coffee houses. My most recent visit was on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded, but not too loud, and the mocha I got was delicious!

I just got my hair cut by Courtney who is a "new talent" at Habitude Fremont. She's been there for about 9 months now though and she has had plenty of experience leading up to that. I got a great (short, layered) cut with plenty of attention to detail and still got all the perks of getting a cut at a fancy place like Habitude (Aveda products, scalp massage, etc.) for a great price! The cut was only $27! Not bad! I'm definitely going back. Unfortunately, I don't want to get too attached, because I'm sure her price will soon go up as she progresses up the ranks.

M&S Deli is conveniently located in Fremont between Nectar and the Ballroom and has all the amenities anyone would ever need. Feeling hungry? They have assorted sandwiches and a bunch of mystery sausages ready for your dining pleasure. Feeling thirsty? A good selection of averagely priced beer, soda, wine, and other drinks await you. Feeling stressed? They sell cigarettes. Not feeling well? They carry the typical array of convenience store over the counter medicines (advil, pepto bismol, tums, nyquil, etc.). What sets M&S apart from just any old deli/convenience store is that you can buy groceries here. They sell fruit, like apples and oranges, crackers and chips, bread, ramen noodles and the like, and other grocery type items. They also sell things like calling cards, lighters, scratch tickets, feminine hygiene products, and the list goes on and on. You really must see for yourself. Oh yeah, they also have an atm machine.

Perry Jones is a fine dentist, but what struck me the most after having visited however, was how great my hygienist was! Unfortunately, I do not remember what her name was, but she was very thorough and enthusiastic and full of helpful suggestions. I was recommended to Perry Jones from a friend and he is a good dentist in my experience. I would pass the recommendation on.

I recently switched from Dr. Perry Jones to Dr. Kaimakis. Dr. Kaimakis is very nice and a great dentist. His office is conveniently located downtown and it is easy to get an appointment. His hygienists are very friendly and helpful as well. Overall, I have been very pleased with my visits. They also have a great new office. Dealing with insurance has been easy. I feel that Dr. Kaimakis and his staff are well informed and intelligent and I trust them. I would definitely recommend Dr. Kaimakis to my friends and family.

I definitely recommend this place, located in the U-district on the Ave, especially if you want to get contacts. Richard Ackman, the contact specialist, is great. He’s very friendly and informative, letting you know about all the options that are available for you, and you get to try out as many trial lenses of different types as you want. They are helpful with dealing with insurance and let you know what you are eligible for. The optometrist is very nice as well, though I spent most of my time with the contacts guy. I’ve recommended this place to several friends, and I know that they’ve had good experiences as well. They also have a decent selection of eye glasses.
