New China Express is not too bad of a restaurant, by Ave. standards. The food is not anything special, although I do like the shrimp fried rice. The prices are cheap, maybe the cheapest of all chinese food in the area, but you pay for it in the quality of food. However, the food comes quickly, the service is very friendly, and it stays open extra late, making it a popular place to come to after some late night studying.

Does Pepe's have the best food on the Ave.? No. Does it even have the best mexican food on the Ave.? Well, that's questionable. Nonetheless, Pepe's remains one of my favorite restaurants in the U-District. Here's why: it's cheap, the food comes quick, it's a cozy atmosphere, the service is decent, and the food's not half bad either, not to mention the decent serving sizes. For a busy college student, this is all one can ask for. A family of four looking for a fine mexican dinner would want to look elsewhere.
I normally go for an enchilada, though watch out for the rice and beans, which aren't exactly gourmet. I've never heard any complaints from friends about specific items on the menu - it all tastes good!

Burger Hut offers the best and widest variety of burgers on the Ave, no doubt. This place likely also offers the fattiest and greasiest food on the Ave. as well. One can not eat here all too often, otherwise they risk suffering a heart attack in the very near future.
The burgers are on the more expensive side, but they are well worth it. They are open till extremely late too, which is when I recommend making a stop by. It's also important to not that there's no actual tables here, you either sit on a stool at the counter, or take away your food in a brown paper bag.
