Although not particularly close to downtown Seattle, this massive fenced-in dog park east of UW has acres and acres of fenced area to let your dog run off leash. It is one of the few places that can exhaust my Siberian Husky pup. There is even a beach where dogs can go out swimming. A little surreal looking around and seeing dozens of dogs and no people swimming. It's free and there is ample parking.

How many times can you go to the top of the Space Needle before it becomes a bore? Apparently twice. Loved it as a kid. Loved seeing it again as an adult. It is always on the must-see list for out-of-towners, but I refuse, I saw the Elvis movie "It Happened at the World's Fair" recently. Why doesn't the Seattle Center look like this anymore? A fantasy wonderland of the future as seen in 1962. No attention paid here to historic preservation. The amusement park sucks too.

Fairly lame review title, but they cannot all be winners. I love the fact that Seattle has, arguably, the coolest and hippest library in the world. That I qualified a library as an attraction says a lot. Rem Koolhaas' spectacular design is mesmerizing. It stands out in a cityscape of bland glass and concrete. Friends want to visit when they venture to Seattle. And, unlike the Space Needle, which I will no longer accompany friends or family to, I enjoy going to (and providing commentary for) again and again. If you know someone who has a fear of heights, you must take them to the third floor. You will laugh your ass off as I have.

My dog Hitchcock has been going to the Downtown Dog Lounge since he was a pup. If I have company coming and I need hime to work out his dog energy, her gets a day there. If I am having a party where there are people coming and going, he gets the evening there. It's clean and friendly but a but overpriced. He always comes back happy and often lets out a howl when we drive by.

The aptly named Deluxe Junk, located in the heart of Fremont is a second hand store serving up vintage matchbooks and postcards alongside retro furniture, dial telephones and the kind of fondue pots you would have seen in The Ice Storm. All the stuff is in great condition and reasonably priced. I kind of look at it as a free museum and gift shop compiled into one. The wave of the future perhaps?

No new stuff here, all original. I purchased an awesome ten foot white leather minimalist sofa for my house that even a guy working in nonprofits could afford. Knowledgeable staff with a great eye for what is cool. Located in Fremont.

Is it wrong to be 37 years old and want to play with children's toys? If so I blame Golden Age Collectibles. Tucked onto one of the lower level of Pike Place Market this killer store has the best collection of off-beat toys, lunch pails, comic books, movie scripts and celebrity cardboard cut outs I have ever seen compiled into one space. The talking Simpsons figures, snorting Abominable Snowman from the Rudolph special and Silence of the Lamps lunch pail keep me coming back.

SAM is not all bad. The Noguchi show is a step in the right direction and the Olympic Sculpture Park looks like it will be a lasting and positive addition to the city. Seattle is a world class city and we need a world class museum. SAM fall well short. If this were Portland (ME) Pasadena or Pittsburgh, SAM would rock. But, this is Seattle and SAM is stodgy, prosaic and predictable. Boring classics and safe traveling shows. It even smells a bit like an old person's house when you enter the very 1980's looking building. I say this because I want to love SAM and want them to pay attention during this expansion period. How about some modern art? How about straying from the straight and narrow once in awhile?

No. The Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) is not cool or stimulating (yet) It could be with the new building but that is years away. The website is not that remarkable either. What it does offer though is a link to UW photo archives and many others allowing the user to glimpse what different parts of the region looked like during different periods. Want to see what Bellevue Way looked like in 1968? There's Farrell's and Frederick & Nelson. Pioneer Square in 1920? Still looks the same. Pretty cool. I have killed many an hour (never at work of course) visiting Seattle's past.

I am not too big a man to admit that I know very little about cars. i don't know what most of the things are called or what they do. When something goes wrong, I have to trust the mechanic I have a Saab and avoid at all costs (because of the cost) dealership repair garages. At Scanwest, they have made repairs reliably and I don't feel like I have been bent over when I depart. An added bonus is that they have a fleet of Saabs to rent for a nominal fee as your car is repaired.
