Wonder where Dan Savage gets his copy of "Harry Potter"? Ever see Annie Leibowitz surrounded by a small throng in a bookstore half the size of a fast food restaurant? This neighborhood anchor has been supporting Capitol Hill in Seattle with a great selection of print for some time now. Don't miss the art and architecture section -- always something interesting sitting on the shelf. If you're local, make sure you get a frequent buyers card -- pays itself off after ten books and gives you another reason to get back into a great store!
Staff picks and the discount table are also not to be missed.

Tucked in behind Diablo Coffee on upper Queen Anne, these guys are a great alternative to the megacorp booksellers you can find anywhere. I've never had an issue not being able to get a book I expected to be in stock, and in fact, these bookworks are every bit as good as Nancy Pearl for recommending other titles they think you'll be interested in. Particularly good current events section and a great neighborhood anchor. Good visiting author circuit, too.

Its not as comprehensive as some of those corporate used chains, but this home-grown Seattle sidebar is a plethora of great used finds. These guys keep some real steals on the shelves, and make a valiant effort at keeping at least one copy of most all the classics on hand. Between the four locations, TST has a great inventory. Each store also has its own family of very, very, domesticated cats ... don't forget the catnip if you stop in.

One of the best retail experiences in Seattle, bar none. Even if you don't like books, you can head down to the cafe in the basement and enjoy a Top Pot donut and cuppa joe to see what underground Seattle was all about (check out the old pull handle crapper in the Men's Room!).
This is the place where the floors creak, where people thumb through the best available bindings, and where the line to work here goes almost as far as the one at the register. Got a favorite author that's on tour? Chances are (s)he will pass through the reading room downstairs (or if not here, then certainly at Third Place Books, the sister store up on Lake City Way).
Great local section and staff picks. A must for any bookworm.

... before "Baby Bills" took over the Seattle business landscape, before the Seahawks were a professional team -- there was the Pink Elephant. Thanks to the persistant state of rain here, there's a constant need to wash your vehicle in this town, and the Super Elephant grabbed both an early lead in the race for automat car washing and the downtown crowd. The sign is a Seatle icon -- almost as much as the Space Needle -- and with a continuance of decent service, it would be hard to imagine this town without the pink spinning pachyderm.

Where else can you catch your car wash attendants in black ties? This eco-friendly washspot is one of the best options for cleaning your car. This location is a combination of self-serve and automated washing (exterior machine, interior self) and the prices are more than reasonable ($7 for a basic wash) and the no-scratch equipment doesn't leave you wanting for a new paint job. Remember to tip the guy at the end ...

Need a new keyboard after deciding your last Dell Inspiron looked thirsty? Meet your new heros. I've got to believe that despite their modest business bedside manner, these guys shed their purple pullover uniforms at the end of the workday and don their Superguy outfits to right the rest of the world. Great service thats priced better than your OEM support.

You've got to like a doc who is willing to listen, especially in a profession where so many seem to turn a deaf ear to patient knowledge and concerns. His bedside manner is humble and tolerant if not genuinely interested in patient perspectives. He's up-to-date on the latest research and procedures, and is not trapped in the mindset of "this is the way things have always been done" brand of medicine. See if you can get Jeff at the front desk to smile.
