This place gets busy at Halloween with those of us that don't scene, but is otherwise a great place to go in for accessories and gear appropo for the lifestyle. Fun to stop in and see what the kids are wearing these days.

Remember when auto mechanics were shifty, unscrupulous grease-monkeys? I'm sure you can still find those guys, but not here. The first time I had my Saab serviced here, I was blown away. They called beforehand to discuss service options and a diagnosis, they go out of their way to make sure you understand what needs to be done, what it will cost, and how fast they can do it -- and it does not deviate from those specs. Your car comes back clean, quite likely with a single flower on the dash, and its not uncommon to score a free t-shirt on pick-up. If you drive a Saab or Volvo, you'd be nuts to go anywhere else.

A classic among Seattle coffee shops. And now that they've got fully-functional and free wireless, there's no reason to go anywhere else. If you're particular to decaf, these guys have some of the best unleaded espresso in town. Queen Anne is the original, but all the locations are consistent with their products. Baristas are all great, and if you get hung up in line, try your hand at the 3-D frog puzzle.

Remember the scene where WInston Wolf (Pulp Fiction) looks over at Tarantino and raises his mug in adoration of that cuppa joe? That was Caffe Vita in the cup. This bean juice has got to be one of the smoothest, creamiest pulls off a La Marzocco machine I've ever had. If you're staying downtown, make the mile jaunt north past the Space Needle to have a grande latte.

Esquin is one of the largest -- if not most complete -- wine retailers in Seattle. Aside from a monstrous selection of wines from around the planet, these guys also handle a full suite of accessories and a great site for storage. To boot, as collectors are often want to release their collected wines to auction, Esquin handles those transactions and affords some of their best buyers first crack at some great (and well cellared) juice.

I've been riding in Seattle for ten years now, and from day one, I've counted on Gregg's to maintain, outfit, and upgrade my bike with everything I've needed. The techs are top-notch, the selection of gear is great, and prices are competitive with every other dedicated shop in town. If you ride a Trek, you can't get better support and knowledge for your ride than these guys. Even better, take a spin around the lake after you've just gotten it tuned up ...

OS represents the musings and analysis of one Erik Benson, a venture capitalist that runs a mid-sized fund in Seattle. Erik always seems to come up with an interesting bent on things, and isn't as focused on the whole tech-Net trappings as are some of his peers. Great links to other blogs, too ...
