The Seattle Art Museum's permanent collection is decent - nothing really special, but fine for a field trip or an afternoon of wandering the galleries. The real reason to visit the art museum is the traveling collections that come through - recently they had a VanGogh exhibit as well as a Spanish painters display.

Le Panier serves Cafe Umbria coffee and the foam on top is divine. The croissants, pains au chocolate, chocolatines, and breads are out of this world. The prices are moderate, and it has a busy-bakery/cafe vibe to it.
Come for breakfast, and get a sandwich ($5) to take with you for lunch. Try the brie. It's good.

This is a lovely locally-owned bakery and cafe. The room upstairs is perfect for a weekend lunch. Try the pesto tortellini salad and the sandwiches - they're really good. The coffee is decent, but the coconut macaroons are really something. Waterfront Bakery shares a building with Heart, the clothing store, but they are separated by the staircase.

Offering full nail, manicure and pedicure services as well as massage and facials. Proprietor Karen Hart's signature facials, using Dr. Spiller products, will leave you practically melting, as blissed out as having a full body massage. She trained at the Euro Institute and really knows her stuff. A beautiful setting with a large, dreamy seaside mural on one large well. Visiting Spa 101 is a treat for the senses.

A manicure from Heidi Hankins, owner of this salon, lasts me at least 7 days, sometimes up to 10 days. She's very good at what she does, can do
a thorough, lasting manicure in just 30 minutes. As a nice touch, she also offers free nail art with a manicure. Schedule ahead, she's not really set up for walk-ins. Located upstairs in a geodesic dome shaped building, her relatively new salon is rather austere.

You'll get a very good haircut from Elyse at Omo Salon. However, her haircuts tend to be fairly high-maintenance, so consider carefully if you're the sort of person who spends time every morning with a blow dryer and a curling iron. If not, you might prefer to get a haircut somewhere else, but if you are a primper, Elyse will make your hair look the best it can. She's good and giving cuts that work with face and body shape, taking into consideration hair texture, and your personality.

I've had several excellent manicures from the Gene Juarez at Bellevue Square. They're not cheap - $35 to $40 after tax and tip - but my manicures have lasted a week or more without chipping, and it's very clean and hygenic. The manicurists all have extensive training and do a good job.

Oh my GOD, the smoked jalepeno cream cheese is AMAZING. Order it spread on a toasted bagel and you will not be sorry. Perfectly savory, smoky, and creamy all at once paired with the chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside bagels... it's heaven with a hole in the middle. The bagels are a tad on the pricey side, but worth every penny. Yum yum.

While it is true that the views from the Skansonia are lovely, I was less than impressed by the venue when attending a recent wedding. The seating area was small (there were perhaps 100 or 150 guests, about 50 of which were standing) and the food was less than stellar. The DJ was too cheesy to be believed, and the bartenders were less than competent (I asked for club soda and got tonic water on one occasion). All in all, the money you'd spend here (something like $42 per guest, with a minimum of 100 guests?) would be better spent elsewhere.
