Wild Orchid takes an interesting spin on Thai food -- And it's AWESOME! It is not so much a kid place - more adults and dates, etc.
I am not a real Thai food kind of person, my husband is. But I have to admit, this is one of our favorite date places. It opened up just recently, and has quite a following now.
They don't take reservations, but are usually pretty good at seating quickly.

When I go here, I like going for the free viewing outside of the building. There's a beautiful walkway full of Chihuly's glass designs. The gift shop is fun to browse in. There are cute glass blown candies and dice here that go over well as gifts. Plus, they're affordable.
The hot shop amphitheatre (with live demonstrations) is a must see here. The rest of the place isn't worthy of the admission price, I believe.
Chihuly designs can be very pretty, but are not worthy of the cost - my opinion. Extreme opulence.

I went over to the 6th avenue shopping district today for some errands, and I saw that this store was closed. Based on the review written here, I was going to check them out for some things I wanted to get for my home. But they had white paper covering their windows and they were out of business....bummer! I was looking quite forward to a day spent shopping :(.

Reharvest has a great philosophy of trying to reduce the amount of waste caused by remodeling and other teardown, so they will actually go out and to tearouts for a reduced cost since they can sell the stuff in their store. As a result, they have a big store full of old doors, windows, cabinets, sinks, toilets, etc., all looking for new homes. Definitely worth the occasional browse just to see if there's anything that you can use if you're into remodeling at all.

Poor, lengthy service, and the food is somewhat more expensive than what I expected. I'm a Dick's Burgers fan, so this heavy greasy food that you have to wait a long time for is not high on my list of places to visit. I'd rather drive to Seattle to get faster, better tasting and, gulp, healthier, faster food from Dick's.
The good thing here is that there are many flavors of milkshakes, and they taste good.

Located in Freighthouse Square, Guinevere's is a fantastic place to get a nice tea set, some imported British chocolate bars or even a jar of Devonshire cream. You'll also find lots of candles, fairies and other gift shop staples as well as a nice selection of Mary Engelbreit products. And, of course, the location allows you easy access to other interesting shops if you don't find just the perfect thing here.

This place -- hands down -- is our family's favorite pizza joint. Wood-fired pIzzas are a bit offbeat with names like Swan Song and The Blues. Pizza guys toss th dough high into the air and waitresses provide pizza dough for the kiddies while you wait for your order. A lunch buffet lets you enjoy the pie without a wait.

Shops like Horatios aren't supposed to exist these days, but there it is, tucked into a corner of downtown Tacoma known as Opera Alley. Fancy hats, decorated with ribbons and feathers, adorn the countertops and walls, and a wall of spooled ribbons awaits your perusal. Ribbons you can't find in Michael's. ;-)
These hats are truly works of art, and one can hardly imagine them being worn anywhere outside of a Very Special Function. Even very small hats for dolls and teddy bears!
The shop owners are very pleasant and courteous - which includes the friendly cats!

I've been to the Blue Olive Bistro in Tacoma once, on a Saturday night. It's down on Dock Street and is one of the nicer martini bar-type places to go in Tacoma. The coconut prawns are excellent and they have a huge selection of martinis to choose from. The night I went it wasn't particularly crowded, which I didn't enjoy. I like there to be a lot of people where I'm going. If you don't, this could be a good place for you.
The food and drinks are pricey, the decor is awesome (they have an ice bar!), the servers are almost exclusively VERY attractive. It's a decent place to go in Tacoma.

More
Shephard's is a very pleasant, small antique shop located downtown on Antique Row. Everything from depression glass to religious statuettes and furniture, even a box of piano rolls - which you don't see too often these days.
The owners are friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to help you.
The shop itself is very narrow, but clean and free from dust. Old-time music plays in the background, and it would be all too easy to spend far too much time browsing there!
