When people talk groceries in Tacoma, it's always Metropolitan Market this, that, etc. I've found Metro Market to be kind of, I don't know, elitist at times--I just don't feel like I belong there. Stadium Thriftway is a small store, but there's a ton of stuff packed in that small space, so I can still by great gourmet and organic food w/o in a more casual sort of environment. The employees here are great, and really make an effort to get to know the regulars. The big bonus for me is that they sell Faith Dairy milk in glass bottles (!!!!!), which save for going directly to the dairy I have been unable to find at any other grocery stores around here, Metro Market included. Check out their summer lunch barbecues as well. This is a great grocery store as well as a great part of the community!

Formerly known as the Tom Boy Market, they recently got a new sign that just says "Neighborhood Market", so I guess that's what its called. I certainly wouldn't do all of my shopping here, but its the place I go when I need an item or two and don't want to get in the car. Kind of a one-of-everything store, so you can't afford to be choosy about brands, but I guess if you need sour cream and they have it, there's no reason to complain, right? Nice employees, too. Definitely serves its purpose well.

A lot of the produce sold at Sterino Farms didn't necessarily grow in the back 40. But some of it did. And all of it is fresh, and it's more convenient than having to drag myself to the farmer's market. Sterino is located in a part of the Fife/Tacoma area that is rapidly growing out of farmland and into auto dealerships and other developments. It's sad, but I'll enjoy my bag of fresh fruits and veggies while I can.

The Proctor Metropolitan Market was a pleasant surprise when it was first built, and continues to be a pleasant surprise to this day. Finding a store that has organic food as well as nutritional supplements and nature-friendly cleaning supplies is very rare. Metropolitan's prices aren't bad either!
The store itself is lit with warm, earth-toned lighting that gives a relaxed, calm atmosphere that can't be found in other grocery stores. The nutritional supplement section has items that are hard to find - I was amazed and delighted to find the special herbal that my dad needs that can usually only be found online.
If the outside of the store gives the impression that the prices might be somewhat upscale, actually the prices seem to be comparable to other grocery stores, as well.... even a little cheaper sometimes.

I went To mega foods today to get a few things to tide us over until pay day. The store is clean and tidy and the shelves well stocked. The personael were friendly and helpful. Not many shoppers and we got thru the cashiers stands in a very timely manner. It is nice to see a grocery store have baggers. That is not what you see in many stores anymore I forgot to state they also have a table set up by the pharmacy that you can get a free diabetic test. Quick easy and FREE. Many of us have diabetes and do not know it. It is a great killer of persons. If you get the time go there and get this free test. The people at this table were friendly and explaned all they were doing so that you were at ease with the test. I am always interested in what the deal of the week is at this store. They have the best ethnic sections of food that is not available at any other stores in this area. I am so glad to see that somebody has cleaned up this store the last couple of years and the product selection is great. We also picked up some teas that were on sale 2/5.00 great buy for stash tea. Oh I forgot to state the bag lady also asked if we needed help to take our groceries out. Never do we get asked at other stores.

I like the idea that Fred Meyer has by making smaller stores that are simply food stores, like this one (FM Marketplace). I can get in and out easily when I need to run up and get something really quick. I like that they have a large natural/organic foods selection. The aisles are nice and W I D E too. Plenty of space to explore.
No Playland for the kiddies here, but that's okay - I'll go to the other one further up 19th for that and shop longer for more items.

Top Food has a great selection of foods, including fresh cookies and bulk candy, but unfortunately the prices are a little higher than a lot of other stores. The store is bright and well laid out, items are easy to find and the staff is helpful.
They do have coupons available sometimes, and a good fresh fruit section.

More
I had to laugh when I saw this in the search. Now, I have NO idea what they are talking about when they list the "United States Government" as a grocery store. One can go many places with this one. Are they talking about the commissaries at Ft Lewis or McChord?
As far as the government being in the food business, all's I gotta say is we truly need to get better. Diabetes is rampant, and all of the diseases that were practically nill at the beginning of the 20th century are now a large part of the drug trade. Food is truly a drug to treat and cure, and the US is by far the biggest drug pusher on the planet. We need a healthier food/drug supply!
Why not start life with the perfect food, one that can never be subjugated/chemicalized/diseased by the government - mother's milk? Ever since the advent of formula, we have cancers never before seen in science, a HUGE increase in breast cancer (duh folks!), immune system diseases, etc.....Better food supply = better mother's milk = healthier humans. DUH!

More
Market Place, near the corner of 6th Ave and Pearl, has a very large selection of fresh foods and ethnic delicacies, all at very reasonable prices. I've seen things here that I've found nowhere else, and a good mix of more common items such as yogurt, at excellent prices. They even have a 'wall of bargains' where you can get deep discounts (hint: it's towards the back, where the restrooms are).
I'd say that, outside of Grocery Outlet, MarketPlace has to be one of my top favorite grocery stores.
There is bus service - in fact, the #16 stops right alongside the side of the store - as well as a large parking lot.

More
Albertson's tends to be one of the brightest-lit grocery supermarkets, and they have some things that others lack. For instance, I was able to find cocoa in Albertsons that did not include alkaline on the label, and could not find that elsewhere.
They have a good deli, and offer food tasting stands. A membership card gets you a discount at the checkout, and the pharmacy covers a lot of different needs. Always busy and bustling, the clerks still have time to give you a smile and greeting at checkout.
