Jeremy Bader is an excellent bike mechanic. He works well on fancy bikes as well as solving problems for my commuter bike that barely holds together.
I don't have extensive history with Jeremy, but he has rebuilt one wheel, replaced a bottom bracket, and generally tuned up my 'cross bike for racing.
Quality work, quick turnaround, well priced (even cheap at times). A good, down-to-earth mechanic. Plus, Madison Bikes is a fun little shop; two guys and a chihuahua (don't be detered).

These guys know what they are talking about. I went to Sayulita Mexico on their advice and had the best vacation imaginable. Perfect surf, nothing but sun, and the town is so small it doesn't even have an atm.

Ti Cycles was recommended to me by a friend who had gotten great service there with some repairs. I took her advice and found she was right, but I also got the feelling that they were extra nice to women. Nothing wrong with that! They fixed something without charging and did a special favor for something else. But now I'm a loyal customer, have spent lots of money there and am still treated well.

The Flying Apron has some delicious treats. I have enjoyed their chocolate chip cookies, as well as their namesake treat, the Flying Apron (available in more than one variety, usually). The items are on the expensive side (almost all items over $2, and near or over $3), but worth an indulgence now and then. When Chaco Canyon is open you can just open the door to the left of the bakery window and get some coffee to go with your breakfast or snack.
I believe that Bulldog News on the Ave also carries some Flying Apron products.

More
Unless you are a serious cyclist and look the part you won't get any help. This is one of the snobbiest stores in Seattle. Recycled Cycles rarely has used bikes anymore and its rarer that you'll find anything at the entry-level price. If you want a good deal on a bike go to Bike Works in Columbia City. They are super helpful, have a selections, and are a non-profit -your purchase helps their youth program. Its probably what Recycled Cycles used to be like, before they got too cool.

I just bought my new bike at Gregg's and wanted to have some parts changed. They were totally unmotivated to sell me the extra parts. After a week I called them and asked about the status. Guess what, they did not even ordered the stuff. I am very disappointed...
It is also very hard to get a qualified sales person. They are talking about things they have no idea about.
Just try the stuff there, but don't buy. I will be hard for you getting someone helping you after you finished your shopping. Unfortunately I bought some extra labor and wanted to pimp my bike a bit - very bad idea with the Gregg's guys.

I'm one of those people who gets lost in REI. Second Ascent is a lot smaller but also more affordable. It carries a lot of outdoor equipment both new and used. They have a great sale selection with a big turnover so you have to visit often to see all their stuff. And the sales staff don't bother you while you shop, but if you have any questions they're very knowledgable. Got a nice little shell for skiing here.

I got my bike tuned up here and they didn't properly tighten my back wheel and left my brakes out of whack. I ended up falling when trying to climb.
The instore experience was poor too because they left me waiting for over 15 minutes.

More
This store has a wide selection of dance supplies for all ages. The service leaves a bit to be desired because they are a specialty store and people tend to have questions. Parking is not the greatest but that is standard for the University area. You can find many outfits and accessories to fit whatever theme you need.

It’s really unfortunate that this place is so close to where I live because it’s not a very nice shop. There’s not a good selection of anything and their prices are so-so. But the worst is the service. Everyone seems rude and sort of suspicious of you. There does not seem to be a smile in there for you.
