My dog used to enjoy boarding here. Now, he whines and resists getting out of the car when we pull up in front and is upset for days after a stay there. The change coincided with a change in ownership/management in summer 2006 that was not announced to patrons, I only found out about it months after the fact. The staff seems young and impatient to me. My dog suffered an injury here in Oct. 07 that was not reported to me when I picked him up and only came to light after we got him home (a cut that could only have happened while he was at Lucky Dog.) The vet guesses that a kennel door was slammed on his head, and said that it must have bled like crazy and could not have gone unnoticed by staff. I know that accidents happen with active dogs, but am not happy that they weren't upfront with us when we picked him up. We will not be taking our dog back to this place. Rates are cheaper than many, but it's not worth the risk to my dog's health. I'll pay more to have him better taken care of.

We love the facility at Central Bark, but it gets pretty rambunctious there and the dogs often bark a lot and run a bit wild. Our puppy loves his other daycare (King's Palace) but when we take him to Central Bark he's not quite as excited about it -- he can be nervous. Still, the webcam is nice.

My daughter loves fish so we decided to purchase a few goldfish at this Petco. We went to the fish section - picked out a standard fish bowl and then looked for someone to help us take out the fish. It took us about 20 minutes to even find someone to help us. When we finally got someone, he looked like a high school student that had no idea what he was talking about. We asked him, "How many fish can we fit in this bowl?" He said, "Probably 3 or 4." So we got 3. We asked him a variety of other questions and he just kept saying things like, "I'm not sure," "I don't know" or it was obvious he was making up the answers. He did not even offer to ask someone else the questions.
We finally got the fish and went to check out. At that time, the woman checking us out said 3 fish were definitely too many for the tank we had. So we had to go and put one of the fish back. We were also told we need this water conditioner and a few other things that the other kid did not tell us.
To make a long story short, we received all different information from 3 different people, and one of the fish kicked it the first week. A quick Sat. trip to buy some fish turned into an 1.5 frustrating fiasco. I know they are only goldfish - but I would caution anyone buying more expensive pets here. Even if the pets are in good condition, the staff could give you advice that will kill them.

The first time I purchased a hamster, it came from Petco. Unbeknownst to me as a first-time hamster owner, the one I picked was way too old to be able to socialize to humans well (at least two months old), and had wet-tail. He died three days later.
My sister twice purchased goldfish from Petco that also died within a week or two. I was disappointed that the staff sold me what I now know was a clearly sick hamster, and that the fish weren't hardy enough to even survive a very careful transition into a new environment. I urge you to give your business to a more knowledgeable and local pet shop.

I walked in and saw feeder goldfish for $2.99, not .14 cents like most places. The door to the store was wet from the air in there. You'd think that after that many years in the business they would know how to fix that. The place stinks, and now my hand is wet. They did have some different fish, but the prices were way, way high. The area that the store is located in has gone downhill and has tons of street people. The iron gate that folds over the front door for security has been through a few break-ins and is missing the handle that was obviously pried off. The parking lot holds 3 cars.

I've always wondered where this place got it's name... I can't really speculate on that, but I can say that it's an OK place to come for fish (to keep in fishtanks as pets, not to cook or eat...) They don't have a huge assortment of fish, but the prices are pretty good.
It's located in the International District on King Street.

I love this pet store. Not only do they have great products, their staff is the best in town. Always friendly and they clearly love what they do.
They actually helped my dog Quinn get used to his gentle leader when I was considering buying one. Another time, I asked one of their staff what to do about some stray cats in our neighborhood (btwn 15-20 cats) She gave me the number for a woman named Pam who runs "Feral Care." Pam came out to our neighborhood and caught 10 of the cats, then spayed/neutered and released them. She adopted 3 kittens out to families.

What a fun shop! From the bright colors to the friendly staff, this is the place to go if you are a cat or dog lover. There are gifts for the animals themselves (including some very smart outfits)as well as books and art work celebrating man's best friend. They have a great selection of natural dog treats (that my yellow lab just loved). Also, they have a full service grooming salon, but it is booked out way in advance.

There is a good selection of natural pet food here and also a lot of things about (as opposed to for) dogs. The have a lot of breed magnents, antique cards, etc. There is also a good library of books on training and living with a dog. The selection of toys is a little slim, but they do have the basics -- tennis balls, squeakers, etc. The store is pretty small, so you can take your dog in but watch out for him/her, the treats and things are within easy reach!
