Paid $250 for installation. Then paid through the nose for the rest of the installation, which was way overpriced. Wound up paying 3 times the cost of the original installation charge. I felt cheap and used after the install (and broke). They did have the courtesy to call before they were late. But then came on the late side of the new time they gave me. Had to pay a stairs charge after assisting the guy with carrying it down the stairs. Was told I would have to wait for the next day if I didn't help carry it down the stairs! Not exactly a company I will do business with again.
The technician was nice enough.

We had our hot water heater replaced when white flakes started coming out and clogging up our sinks and shower head.
We actually had never used this site before and were not going to call this company due to another review but Fast was the only one able to come out same day.
At first we were a little surprised at total cost, so we actually sent them away and took an estimate and had two other companies come out over the next two days (we stayed at my mom's for a night while the water was out...).
After the other two companies came out we actually decided to go BACK to Fast. Cost was in line with the other guys and they were more professional. We also thought they would do a safer installation.
Since we took a two days to get this done - we did some web research (that's how we found this site...) and learned that there are more unintentional injuries and deaths every year due to water heaters than any other home appliance. We have three small children and I wanted to be sure the work was done correctly.
This company's technician was very professional. They did all of the work up to current code, pulled a permit for us. We did install straps and we also installed a little tank on top of the heater to be up to code.
I'm sure you can get it done cheaper but given the safety issues - I wanted professional. And, based on the three companies we saw, cost was more or less in line.

I bought a hot water heater from Home Depot and Fast Water Heater was the contract installer. Starting in 2003 water heaters needs to be fastened to the wall in case of an earthquake. I had already paid $55 for the earthquake fastening kit. Upon arrival I was told that special concrete bolts would be needed to secure the strap to the basement concrete wall. The price was $19 per bolt for a total of $76. I found this pricing extremely unreasonable. The installers admitted that the bolts could be purchased at the store for $5 a box. They also wanted to charge extra to replace the existing galvanized overflow pipe with a PVC one. While galvanized piping is outdated, it works just fine for overpressure relief. I felt that the whole transaction was full of overpriced or unnecessary add-ons.
