I would agree that Dr. McDermott is a good Doctor, if and I stress IF you can deal with her office and nursing staff. I called Dr. McDermott's office to get a prescription when we had moved to a new address and had lost the prescription she had given me a few months back. I was told that they would get back to me. They did weeks later to ask where they should call in my prescription. I left this information with their receptionist as its impossible to talk to a nurse immediately when you call this office. Evidentially they called my old pharmacy instead even though I had given them this information with the receptionist. When I called to ask them to recall as they had called the wrong pharmacy, the nurse called me back and basically told me she talked with Dr. McDermott and she "feels they shouldn't refill my prescription and that I need to call my Internist." This is after I've waited for weeks for them to get the pharmacy right. The Nurse basically told me that they "had given me a Rx in person and had already called it in (to the incorrect pharmacy) and thus they can't refill it again. I asked the nurse if, since she was stating I somehow filled the Rx I had said I had lost, then perhaps she could call the pharmacy to find out if I had filled the prescription. She responded by telling me "she doesn't call pharmacies for anything but calling in prescriptions." By this time I had pretty much had enough with Dr. McDermott's office which I was bummed about as I really liked her.

As an MD myself, I hope I can tell when I have met an outstanding doctor. I believe that David Bowe is an excellent pediatrician and I have been 100% happy with the care he has given my 2 girls. I recommend him very highly.
The only reservation I have is that his clinic is very busy (a mark of their popularity, I guess) and it can sometimes be difficult to get an appointment as soon as you might like.
David Bowe is a 5-star pediatrician, but the accessibility issue loses him 1 star.

Cyndi is a licensed nurse midwife who has her own practice and previously had an arrangement to deliver babies at Swedish Hospital in Ballard. Now she delivers at either Group Health or the Community Birth Center (montlake). Since she works alone you are virtually guaranteed that she will deliver your baby rather than whoever is "on call". Cyndi was super to work with during my pregnancy. Office visits usually lasted 45 minutes to an hour: plenty of time for me to remember all my questions and talk about ways to have a healthy pregnancy. Very friendly and calm, easy to reach for the odd question or concern and knowledgable of recent research and medical findings. She volunteered to come to my house for the early stages of labor and was very competent and reassuring during the delivery.

More
I've had the fortune of finding an ideal general practitioner within a few months of moving to Seattle. Christopher J. Pepin was recommended to me by another Polyclinic practitioner who aptly described him as "thoughtful" and "progressive". Chris is extremely intelligent, approachable and thorough. I've had few physicians follow through on symptoms and conditions the way Chris has, and his concern seems sincere. Beyond the medical treatments, I've had the pleasure of discussing with Chris topics ranging from the myth of Claritin to finding one's calling. Although Chris has a slightly nervous and fast way of talking, I feel comfortable in his care and have never felt rushed. His continued passion and dedication to medicine appear again and again in every visit I have with him.
As a member of the Polyclinic, Chris accepts a variety of insurance. He is located on the 2nd floor of the Polyclinic-First Hill building. Metered street parking is generally available. Structure parking is pricey.

i won't go back to this place. i had an 11:30 apointment for a regular annual check up. they got me into the exam room quick enough, but things went downhill from there. i waited more than an hour and a half for the doctor to see me. the nurse popped in around every 15 or 20 minutes with different reasons why the doctor hadn't been in to see me, including that she had gone into a doctor staff meeting. when the doctor finally saw me, she said she had actually totally forgotten me. lovely. so she was off busily treating other patients while i sat there forgotten during my work day. i arrived at the office at 11, since they asked me to in order to fill in their forms, and i left at 1:45. i'd guess i spent 15 minutes of that time with the doctor. forget it. my time is as important as theirs so this kind of treatment is just wrong. i wouldn't give return business to anyone else after this kind of experience, so why would i for a doctor?"

I could not have asked for a more efficient and professional clinic. We used to see Dr Kwan-Gett who is fabulous, but has moved on to research. Now we see Dr Numrych and my kids absolutely love him! He is VERY good with kids who are afraid of the doctor and pays attention to every detail! He is even great with parents who have a lot of questions. We wouldn't take our kids anywhere else!

Dr. Anderson is a solo sports medicine doctor, not an orthopedist, so he is into nonsurgical treatment and rehab. He is conveniently located across from U. Village, has a very nice, personal way about him and knows his stuff. I think he was a doctor for the American olympic diving team a few years ago.

Erratic behavior. Top down approach to medicine. Patronizing, but he does not realize that. Surely he is trying to be a good physician, but he misses the mark on many counts including matters of trust.

Insurance Company Interests Come First Here

More
When we first visited Dr. Springers office, I noticed a newspaper clipping about the Doctors recent Award for NOT precribing antibiotics to children in many cases....the award (and monetary gift) from an insurance company! That initially struck me as maybe a bit of a conflict of interest.
My son, who is ADHD, had been seeing a highly respected ADHD specialist for seven years, until our insurance company dropped that Doctor and then assigned Dr. Springer to us. Dr. Springer, on our first visit, made it clear he was "not comfortable" with my sons' medication he had been on for seven years. As a parent, I have always had a great concern for my childs well-being, and especially when it concerns taking this type of strong medication. He had been thoroughly checked out every three months for potential side-effects, and has always come up up clear and in good health. Today the Doctor made the sudden decision, without consultation with us, to refuse to have his medication prescription filled. Cutting my son off of his necessary medication cold-turkey without consultation is absolutely the most unethical move I have ever heard of by a Doctor, who refused to discuss it with me when I called, and simply left his office (early) for the day. This doctor has clearly demonstrated that he is putting the interests of the insurance companys before the interest of his patient. DO NOT RISK YOUR CHILDREN'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING!! SEE SOMEONE ELSE!!

Dr. Barry’s office is state-of-the-art. They have a bright office and everything is spotless. They even have those intra-oral cameras so you can get up close & personal with your teeth. The staff is friendly, and they offer headphones for those of you who don’t like the sounds of the drill. They take all kinds of insurance.
