I've worked with Dave on a series of projects - from a garden fence to a complete home remodel - and found him to be a very skilled designer, able to come up with creative solutions to difficult space and cost constraints. He's easy to work with, doesn't cop a lot of architect attitude, and tells you what he thinks.
If there's one area of concern with Dave, it's that he doesn't always nail down the business details the way he should - items like matching estimates to bills, etc. can get lost in the shuffle. Keep an eye on that and you're sure to be happy with your results.

More
SHED is a design/build collective founded by four UW architecture grads with a passion for spare, thoughtful building design coupled with exacting craftsmanship in construction and detailing. With several award-winning public commissions (including the Pike Place Market museum) and a growing list of private residences to their credit, the group is quietly building a reputation for excellent work. In addition, the partners have individually and collectively shown their conceptual design work at a range of local galleries and exhibit spaces, and have been as well received for their theoretical contributions as for their built structures. If want a design partner who will challenge you to create great design and great space, SHED is a great place to start.

More
My wife and I had the remodel from hell - halfway through demo, with the roof off and winter coming, we ran into unexpected foundation problems. In the end, we had to dig out 2/3 of our foundation, drive 85 steel pilings (and watch our hole in the ground fill with water for 2 unplanned months). Swenson Say & Faget were the folks that put us back on solid ground. We didn't have much contact with them (our architect hired them), but they cranked out the studies and structural recommendations that we needed to solve our problems. Can't speak for their interpersonal skills, but our house is still standing...

More
A little over six months ago, my husband and I hired Student Painters.net to paint the exterior of our 1928 home in Seattle. When the crew leader came out to do the estimate, he told us about a house just around the block that they had also painted. In doing the estimate, we were given lots of options on where we could cut costs or make upgrades. It was nice to see they had some flexibility. After we got the estimate, we walked up to the other house to check out the paint job. Seeing what we liked, we knocked on the door and spoke with the owner. She told us about her experience and because everything she said was good and because they were reasonably priced, we hired them.
The crew leader paid us another visit to leave us with paint chips to decide on the colors. In the end, he was the one who choose the right white to achieve our desired look for the trim. The crew leader continued to be very accommodating, acquiring quarts of paint to do test patches on the house before we committed to a color. When we didn't find exactly what we wanted, he custom-blended the color that we eventually went with.
The crew was very professional. Everyday, one or two guys would show up. They worked around the various obstacles in our garden. They even put up with our dogs. We let them leave their equipment by the side of the house and in the driveway overnight. The job was done in about a week, with most of the time spent on prep work--taping and scraping. I don't think we could have asked for better results for $3500. Everyone we know agrees it was a vast improvement over the previous bad paint job and color.

I hired Organize With Amy to help me get my office together. I run business and am busy trying to get sales, manage the supply chain and close deals. I have a lot of paperwork and over time became buried by things. I tried to get organized but seemed to always fall back into the same trap. I hired Organize With Amy and in one session we got my files, paperwork and office in order. The best part is that I'm still organized because they gave me the framework to use for lasting organizational change. Believe me, it's worth and you'll be very happy you called them.

More
I know there are plenty of fancy new washers and dryers on the market, with all kinds of global laundry positioning and magic-fold and such. But if you want clean clothes you can depend on year after year, my strong advice is that you head up to Weiskinds on Aurora and pick yourself up a pair of reconditioned Maytags.
Unlike the all-plastic, built-to-break stuff being cranked out these days, these old Maytag washers and dryers are built like tanks - heavy-gauge steel bodies, baked-on enamel finishes, simple controls, and simple mechanisms that will run for years without a whimper.
Oh, sure, you don't have a wide choice of colors - no 'deep teal' or 'winter moonrise' here, just pretty much white, white, and the occasional '70's harvest gold. But if it's clean clothes and reliability you want, you know where to go.

We hired Van and his gang this Spring to help us with a much-overdue cleanup of our yard. The weeds were thick, the grass...looong. He was quick to respond, visit and provided us a very competitive quote for the job. They were available almost as soon as we were ready.
They were quick and the yard looked great when they were done. No one from the work-team spoke English the day of the job so we lost some plants that we liked and some got left that we would have rather had gone. The left the site very clean.
Oh, but all of the weeds were coming back within 2-3 days. But I guess I can see them all now...
