Great bagels, fine pastries, really poor organization at counter. Each counter staff person takes an order and then makes the full order, resulting in customer who just wants a bagel off the shelf waiting a l o n g time while the counter help makes another person's entire order and then rings it up. (Most shops have a designated cashier who rings up all purchases and grabs the quick muffins, etc, while cook/prep staff put together any order over a few seconds.) I now only go in to GB if I see there is no line. Many times I have waited in a 12 minute line, been late to an event, and I have decided not to repeat that mistake. Good food if you have time!

The Grateful bread is one of those places that looks better than it actually is. It has a cool hippy feel to it brimming with karma, but the quality of the coffee and the service are both very poor. The baked goods are very good (especially the pies) but on the whole I often leave feeling disappointed.

The coffee used to be a problem here. But no longer because they changed brands. It's a nice place to come because the is usually a mellow crowd and the service is consistent. It's not my favorite place because it lacks the cozy atmosphere of some houses but it's definitely in the "B" range. It seems not to be hurt by the new Top Pot across the street.

grateful breads is a bakery and cafe with single-serve desserts, bagels, beverages like coffee and hot chocolate, and possibly sandwiches and salads, I'm not sure. it has friendly service, a friendly atmosphere, and is very kid-friendly. if i remember right, it has a kid's play structure in the corner, but i might be mixed up. the food isn't anything terribly special, and neither is the place, and I wouldn't go out of your way to go to it, but if you are in the area and would like to stop in for a coffee-break type snack, this isn't bad. it's a little crowded, but not too bad.

The Grateful Bread has perfect bagels (not too bready, just the right chewy-ness, and all the right flavors). The pastries are delicious - strawberry rubarb bar is my current favorite. Although a tea drinker, I'm sure the coffee is great. They usually have interesting art on the walls. A picture of Jerry Garcia hangs above the register and if you look into the kitchen there is a lifesize cut out of him. Kind of eerie in a flashback kind of way. The staff are friendly once they start to recognize you. Seating is comfortable - the place is sometimes quite crowded. Although there is a Starbucks going up right across the street I don't think this will affect their loyal customers.
