I went to help a friend buy a computer today. We checked out CompUSA, Circuit City, The Apple Store, and Best Buy. My friend decided that he would purchase a computer from Best Buy because they truly did have the "best buy". However, their service was sub-par. I suppose that is the cost of a lower price. Not only did the original store we went to have sub-par service, but they sent us in a wild goose chase to two other stores, finally ending at the Everett store. This was the worst service I have ever received. Not only did this employee not seem to care about my friend and his experience in that store, but my friend had cash in hand and the employee shrugged him and his questions off. He claimed they did not have the model that we were specifically sent to Everett to pick up, but he just took off with no explanation only to help another customer next to us a little bit later, with not so much as an explanation. We then took it upon ourselves to find a manager, who ended up finding the right computer and then spent the next hour trying to sell us on their service warranty (supposedly this covers accidental damage). Which, by the way, sucks too. I bought it for a camera and when the camera stopped working I was told that I had dropped it and it wasn't covered under their warranty (when I shared this anecdote with the store employees they didn't seem shocked that I was treated in this manner at a different store and was told that I should have made the 30 minute jaunt to their store). I find myself sickened by these large corporations. Whether their warranty is flawed or their training of employees, I have never had a good experience at them.

More
Sutter Home and Hearth sells fireplace inserts, gas logs, fireplace doors, tools and anything else related to fireplaces. The items they carry are good quality and the sales staff is very helpful in describing the various options, although they can be just a tiny bit pushy at times. The store even has a computer photo gallery of various fireplace projects they've completed to help buyers get a sense of what combinations might look good in their own homes.

After spending a few trips to Sears being ignored or dealing with un-informed sales staff, Wiseman's was a breath of fresh air. Very knowledgeable without a hard sell, Wiseman's reminds you why the classic neighborhood stores are often better. Prices seemed comperable to the other places we checked, and they seemed to believe in "quality over quantity" in their selection . . . ie. they had whittled it down to the products they could actually stand by. They have a good selection of European and hard to find appliances, such as our New Zealand Fisher and Paykel stainless steel drawer dishwasher (which for the record, rocks!)

Will never buy from this outfit again and will never send a friend to Albert Lee

More
My experience with Albert Lee was exactly as I was warned. They are happy to sell you appliances and collect your money, but once they get your money, they want nothing to do with you. They sent me damaged items and some of the items were wrong and not what I ordered. They would not return phone calls and when we did touch base they refused to take any returns or fix the damaged items despite them being still in the box.
All I have to say here is - buyer beware. You better inspect your appliances throughly right away and deal with them immediately. Our salesman ordered the wrong item for us and then insisted that it was what I requested. They also would not take the item in return. I spent $25K there and let them know that I will never be back and my contractor also says that this is par for the course for them - he will never refer a client to them again. They understand this and dont care, which is a great example of how they value their customers.

More
We knew exactly what we wanted. Fisher & Paykel has the only stainless fridge that would fit in our kitchen and doesn't have those black textured sides. It's also a decent price - for stainless.
We started off at Albert Lee and were intimidated. They don't advertise prices, and the wait for a salesperson (especially on a Saturday) can be daunting.
So, we headed off to Almvig's. We're not much for shopping, and just wanted to order our fridge and go home. We set up a delivery date, and my partner took the day off of work.
By 1:00 PM on the scheduled delivery date- there was no sign of our new fridge. My partner called Almvig's only to find out that the fridge was on back order and wasn't due in for another week.
Apparently, the salesperson at Almvig's had no intention of calling to tell us this. She did apologize, but the damage was done. Really, how inconsiderate!
We canceled our order with Almvig's, received a full refund and bought the fridge for the same price at Albert Lee.
