Village Maternity is a tiny shop that manages to cram in clothing and supplies both for expectant mothers and for infants. As a result, the selection is not large but it is very good quality. As you might expect, the prices, like the clothes, are "precious". I think this store would be a great place to find a gift or a certain item but it's probably not where you want to do all you maternity and baby shopping.

A few years ago I was training for the Breast Cancer 3-Day (60 miles over 3 days). I knew I needed the best possible shoes I could find since I'm not "HWP"and would be using them constantly so I went to J&J. I was pretty much ignored while other people (seek, slender, sinewy people) were waited on. I approached someone for help and got very little advice which I really needed. I finally bought what seemed best and got horrible blisters so I took them back, which is their policy but they were pretty rude about it. I've heard similar reports about the difference in service from older women and other people who appear to be less in shape.
I went to the Seattle Running Company in Capitol Hill next and it was night and day! I got more advice than I could possibly use, a stride analysis and the feeling that they wouldn't let me choose a shoe that wouldn't take care of me. They were supportive and friendly and I've been going their ever since.

I went to Kuhlman based on reviews from this site. We needed someone to do some alterations on the very expensive suit that we bought for my fiancee to wear in our wedding.
I agree with other reviewer's who say that clothes sold here are pretty awesome. While my future husband was off getting measured I was kept entertained with the small but cute selection of women's clothing that they carry there.
My big complaint though is that I was completely ignored by the sales people working there. And I should point out that this is a *tiny* store so it takes significant effort to ignore a customer in this space. They were too busy browsing web sites on the computer/cash register and talking about what new songs they liked to be bothered with even acknowledging my existence. I was completely turned off and certainly wouldn't buy any merchandise from here. On the other hand, the tailor was uber professional and we would certainly return for his services. They just need to hire new sales staff :-)

I am a fan of the idea of Title 9 Sports. I have shopped at Title 9 Sports. The store is within walking distance from my house, I am their demographic ideal. But, and this is a big but, while shopping there last week, my friend and training partner, a national level athlete, who had just made a purchase, was asked to breast feed her newborn baby elsewhere and out of sight. I was stunned. They sell maternity athletic wear. They sell nursing sport bras, but it would seem to me they haven't really got their act together, and perhaps the store does not practice what it preaches.
It was so disappointing!

These guys were referred to me by Dave Page Cobbler (the best place in town for hiking boot / climbing shoe repair - but that's another review). Dave knows his stuff, and Johnny's proved to be just what I needed - high quality work (re-heel and repair on a pair of dress boots), reasonably quick turnaround, fair prices and nice folks. If you need high quality shoe repair and Ballard is on your radar, Johnny's is the place to go.

Paula, owner of Dumb Clothing, had a small shop on Capitol Hill when the lure of travel called her away. So...the only way to get her great skirts (I sell a few everytime I wear one out) is to register on her site: www.dumbclothing.com and receive an alert when she is in town. Otherwise...you will have to find a way to New York in the Springtime to get the real thing. Paula makes great fun girl skirts...in New York you can actually design it with her in her own shop. The second best part...cost is between $40-$50 per skirt...but you look like you went to Tulip or Barney's in Seattle. My fashion secret is now out.

Tulip is listed everywhere as the "in" boutique in Seattle. But I found it disappointed and very overpriced. The clothing is innovative but the level they carry can be found many other places (try Les Amis in Fremont for example). Service was cold which chills up a small store pretty quickly. Recommend to skip through the Tulip on to other much better locations in Seattle and beyond.

I have always had trouble finding pants to fit my 3 yr. old twins, who are on the somewhat short side. They are "between sizes" a lot, not quite big enough for one but too small for another and The Gap has answered my prayers with the "Superlastic" waistband. It has FOUR different button placements inside the waistband so it can be moved accordingly. Baby Gap & Gap Kids may not be the cheapest, but the quality and style is worth the money.
